If you are reading this right now, there is no doubt that you have been considering becoming a court reporter in the near future. If so, you are most assuredly in good company, as court reporting is one of the fastest growing and most stable professions in any field today. While computer technicians and medical personnel are careers that will likely never fizzle out, they are also careers that constantly change, taking with them the value of many of the skills acquired in studying to become a computer programmer or a doctor. Software programs may change, and medical breakthroughs which turn most of the healthcare profession on its head can occur at any time, especially in this age of constant progress.

Court reporting is one of the fastest-growing but least known about jobs in the nation, and many people are clamoring for the opportunity to work in the fast-paced and exciting world of legal court reporting. But, as with any profession, the concern of money is ever-present, and some people wonder whether a court reporter’s salary is really anything to write home about. By most accounts, court reporting is one of the best-paying and most rewarding jobs on the market today. The hours can be long, and the study required in order to become a master of the trade is comparable to many other ultimately more difficult jobs, but the overall benefits can be worth it.

Court reporting is the practice of recording the goings-on at various legal proceedings. It often takes place in the courts, or in various chambers, as you work under the actions brought forth by the judge. Court reporters then supply these records to the parties involved in the court proceedings, as well as files them with the presiding clerk. Governmental meetings are also often recorded by court reporters. Depositions, which are recordings made of witnesses prior to the trial, are often held in rooms in places such as airports.

Plenty of people are very interested in the legal profession these days, but seem to believe that it is only possible to break into such an exciting and fulfilling career by becoming a lawyer of some kind. While practicing law in this manner can be quite a wonderful job, there are other ways to place oneself right in the middle of thrilling legal action without becoming a bona fide lawyer. Court reporting is one of the most commonly overlooked fields of work within the legal scope these days. It is fairly easy to become a court reporter, but as with any job worth the pay, there are many different requirements.
